Journal Entry #3 — Fly-Out Day

As I sail into the clouds from my “home country” to the Land of the Rising Sun, I get that familiar feeling in my gut. A mix of anxiety and anticipation, and I love it!

Like a bear waking up from hibernation, slowly crawling out of its cave in the spring, the traveller in me is coming back to life. Not that it was dead, but while I was “home,” I had to leave this part of me in the back of my mind in order to function properly while getting things done in my day-to-day life.

Writing these words on the plane, slowly advancing towards my destination, is a moment that I cherish. It’s the anticipation of an upcoming adventure and a reward for all the sacrifices I made to get here.

Those past two years have involved a lot of work. Coming back from my last adventure in Mexico, I made a promise to myself: I would only allow myself to go on another trip once I had finished my book, created my website, and put everything in place to make this dream of mine a reality: making a living as a travel photographer and writer. And I’ve done it! Now, everything else is up to the universe!

While sitting on the plane, my imagination is running wild. I can’t help but wonder what I’ll get to see, the experiences I’ll live, the people I’ll meet, and the images I’ll create.

Every nautical mile travelled on this plane brings me closer to my destination and to this version of myself that I truly love, the person I’ve created for myself: The Wandering Photographer.

With everything done, I could finally lift the weight of all those tasks, this burden I’ve been carrying with me over the past couple of years, and replace it with the weight of my backpack and camera, which feels much lighter.

It feels like, upon landing in Japan, this creative spark within me will shine once more, like the rising sun.
